Supervised by: Food Services Manager

Schedule: Full time including weekends


ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW Dolores Street Community Services (DSCS) nurtures individual wellness and cultivates collective power among low-income and immigrant communities to create a more just society. As a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization, we work to improve lives on an individual level as well as affect broader social change by engaging in advocacy and community organizing. We work together across programs to address homelessness, lack of affordable housing, and to support immigrant rights in order to meet the complex needs of our communities and collectively address the root causes of suffering and injustice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Lunch pick up at 11:45am daily

Dinner Pick up at 5:30 pm daily

  • Follows established menu.
  • Prepares special meals for clients with physician's letter of instruction at Cohen, and follow nutrition requirements guidelines.
  • Ensures that food is "served safe" and held at safe temperatures before serving.
  • Communicates inventory, equipment, and supplies needs to Food Service Manager on weekly basis.
  • Follows basic FIFO inventory rule.
  • Labels the date when receiving food and supplies.
  • Display/presents food in an attractive and appetizing manner.
  • Cleans and sanitizes the kitchen after meals.
  • Stores, labels, and dates leftover foods only if it can be reused safely.
  • Checks sandwich ingredients and beverages in dining room refrigerators each day at Cohen. Discards expired and "tired' foods. Restocks food as needed.
  • Completes list of daily maintenance chores.
  • Removes recycling and compostable garbage from kitchen to trash at end-of-day.
  • Wipes down kitchen counters, sinks, & stove-tops.
  • Receives and stores deliveries in the absence of the Food Service Manager.
  • At Women's building, cooks to bring down the food and items and wait at the entrance for delivery personnel. (if the elevator is down, the cooks to inform the delivery staff for help with carrying food: 1-415-795-0414-Food delivery ; 1-415-426-8017-Kitchen; 1-415-623-0064-Barbara)
  • Informs Food Service Manager for food items, and inform Operation Manager for supplies when urgent needs.
  • Packs meal boxes for CQ residents for delivery.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.




Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Obtain Food Handler Certificates
  • TB Clearance
  • COVID Vaccination required
  • Working knowledge of safety and hygiene standards.
  • Familiar with and able to prepare traditional American cuisine and traditional ethnic dishes.
  • Experience with kitchen tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of nutrition, portioning, and food preservation
  • Willingness to work with clients who have a history of substance use and psychosocial issues.
  • Team player and healthy communicator
  • Ability to pass an extensive background check
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
